The ability to plan surgery in 3D greatly enhances the capabilities and performance of the surgeon.  However, access to 3D models of arthroplasty prostheses is restricted due to the potential theft, or unauthorized copying of such critical and valuable modelling data.

To address this, True Life Anatomy have introduced a system to create a secure encapsulation of the 3D prosthesis information in an accessible, but non-distributable encrypted and protected digital format.

As part of the TLT process, the 3D data (typically an STL file) is significantly altered and then encrypted in such a way that it can only be viewed within the TLA Animator templating and virtual surgery environment. The process of complex and variable lock and key plus high level encryption in a non-distributable format allows the sharing of valuable 3D prosthesis data in a secure system, with the ability to save screen images, but without the ability to export, store or otherwise manipulate the critical and valuable 3D prosthesis data.

 

There are two level of secure TLT encapsulation (Patents pending):

  • TLT(L) – this process disrupts and alters the data file and then high level encrypts the data in such a way that it can be decrypted and repaired only in the TLA Animator templating and virtual surgery environment. Such files can be stored on local folders or databases and accessed for immediate or subsequent use, but only by using the decryption and repair process.
  • TLT (0) – this is a much higher-level security where the same file disruption and encryption process is used, but with additional decryption authorization linked to a registered user details and a specific one-off decryption code. TLT(0) files cannot be stored locally.

 

TLT(O) Vendor prosthesis download process

There is a multi-stage but orderly process.

  1. Select the desired vendor – this will take you to the vendor’s own implant repository.
  2. Insert Username and password to gain access to the vendor site
    (must have been pre-registered)
  3. Select the anatomical region
  4. Select the desired prosthesis and click “Acquire”.
  5. Prosthesis vendor will encrypt and send protected file which will automatically send to TLA Animator – which should already be open on computer
  6. Vendor will have sent a decryption code via SMS or email to surgeon
  7. To unlock 3D file, Surgeon inserts decryption code to gain access to 3D prosthesis data
  8. 3D prosthesis model will appear in templating program
  9. Surgeon perform templating and planning, and saves 2D screen capture or animation.
  10. Planning process can be saved for later viewing, but as actual 3D prosthesis cannot be saved, will need to be reloaded as above.
